Pinecone Research, Panel Champ

The National Consumer Panel is an established company backed by two research powers, NielsenIQ and IRI. The NCP is a "mini-USA", representing millions of Americans. Since 1987 (originally as Nielsen Homescan, then in 2010 as National Consumer Panel), the NCP has been gathering panel member's opinions and shopping data to help manufacturers and retailers make informed decisions on what products to develop, improve or sell in the market.

The NCP panel gives panelists the opportunity to earn rewards from a fun and simple process, simply by scanning barcodes of the items they buy every week! You could change the face of your favorite brands or improve your shopping experience by becoming a member.

Payment and Rewards

Sign Up for Your Spot

Being immediately accepted into the program is not guaranteed because acceptance is based upon if/when there is an opening or a need for specific household demographics, so availability does vary. To sign up for NCP, simply click the green 'join now' buttons on this page to apply for a position.

Rewards for Participating

Earn points for sending your shopping data each week and for answering surveys. NCPMobile participants can redeem their points towards gift cards including: AMC, Amazon, Apple, Delta, Fandango, Google Play, Groupon, Spotify, Uber as well as for Vanilla Visa cards.

Participants with hand-held scanners can access NCP's online gift catalog that contains a wide variety of name-brand merchandise including electronics, home appliances, sporting goods, toys and more!

Earn More Rewards

New NCP panel members earn reward points for registration and reporting their first shopping trip. In addition, panel members earn 250 reward points for birthdays, 1,000 bonus points on their 6-month anniversary and 1,000 bonus points on their 1-year anniversary (and each year after that). Other seasonal and ad-hoc promotions can earn panel members additional reward points depending on their participation.

Participant Experience

Scan Your Purchases with the National Consumer Panel App

As a new member of NCP, you will receive access to NCPMobile, their exclusive mobile app for scanning and reporting your shopping trip details (available in iOS and Android). Use the app to scan the barcodes on your weekly purchases and earn rewards for your participation. You can also provide information on non-barcoded items you purchase (such as fruit and vegetables, baked goods, gas, prescriptions, etc.) using the app. You may be asked to provide additional information on a shopping trip, including the store you went to, if you used a club card, etc. Sharing this level of detail will help the product makers and retailers that are responsible for the products you love to purchase and is easily done so using the interface.

Earn Reward Points!

Points are largely earned by scanning your weekly purchases. You'll start by getting 150 points each week NCP receives your shopping data. The weekly amount of points increases the longer you are on the panel. With opportunities to earn additional points by answering surveys, special NCP promotions, specialty panels, etc., points can add up quickly. Gift offerings begin at 5,000 points.

Not worth your time

April 14, 2015 by Tara from United States

I joined NCP in 2012, and for the first year it wasn't too bad. Unlike some of the other reviewers I never had any frozen goods thaw/melt while I was scanning because I always put them in the freezer before starting to scan. But the amount of time it took to scan was just too much considering the miniscule reward.

Then, last October my internet was out for two weeks and NCP started calling me multiple times a day because I wasn't submitting my purchases. After getting my internet back on I resumed scanning/submitting weekly. I got the monthly emails confirming that NCP had received my scanned data but I continued receiving the phone calls stating that I hadn't been scanning. I called NCP and they said it was a system error and they would look into it. The calls stopped, and I continued to get my participation report emails indicating that they were receiving my transmissions every week.

On 4/3/15 I logged into the NCP site to update my mailing address. On 4/7/15 I received an email from NCP demanding I return the scanner by 4/17/15 or they would turn it over to a collection agency.

Home Scanning

February 25, 2015 by Nanci from United States

I have only been with NCP for about 1 and a half months. So far i really like it. As for earning points, i think it will be slow at first and will pick up down the road.

Update: I've been with NCP for 8 months. The points add up quickly. They give points for all types of things to do. Scanning, Sweepstakes, Surveys, I've got Anniversary points, I was in a contest with other members and won 2nd place and received 650 points. So it is over all a decent company to do business for. Currently i am not interested in any lower points items in their catalog. So i am holding out for higher point amount rewards.

They did a special Study in the middle of December 2014 through January 2015. It was pretty easy . Just send all my receipts for those times i shopped through a email. I earned a $50.00 NCP gift card. With a list of different companies i could use it for. I received the giftcard rather quickly. My points to date are 40,650. i am building them towards a higher point value gift. I like it very much and will continue with them as long as their around or forever. I suggest trying to get on it. The survey's are many. You get to complete all of the ones they send. Your never opted out ever. I've never had to sit with a survey for longer then 20 - 30 minutes. They offer 150 points or 1 Sweepstakes entry and 50 points. They are a excellent company....

Love NCP!

January 31, 2015 by Peggy from United States

I've been on this panel for 9 years. You have to remember the more surveys you take the more points you earn. In 5 years I was able to get a Kitchen Aid Stand mixer. Something I have always wanted but didn't want to pay over $250 for it. I simply scan as I take my merchandise out of the bag. If no shopping is done that week I send in that nothing was bought so it isn't counted as a missed scan. I have almost 200,000 points since I purchased the mixer and can't wait to see the new catalog that is out!

Love this panel

October 6, 2014 by Lori from United States

I have been a member of the panel since it was still just a part of Nielsen. I enjoy it very much, and it only takes a few minutes a week to scan and do surveys. Someone left a review saying it took them on average 5 hours a week to scan and do surveys, and I have no idea how it would take them that long unless they have a slow computer or perhaps they read the surveys more slowly than I do.

Works fo Me

August 5, 2014 by Sharon from United States

Have been doing the weekly scanning for about 1 month. The first time it took forever because I was disorganized. From then on, it was a breeze. Does take time, so do the frozen food first. It is also educational, because you get to compare prices among stores. They stick in my head on future shopping trips.

As far as rewards go, I have my prize picked out, sort of a goal. Have spoken to them twice on the phone and they were business-like both times. Don't give up too quick.
