Pinecone Research, Panel Champ

The National Consumer Panel is an established company backed by two research powers, NielsenIQ and IRI. The NCP is a "mini-USA", representing millions of Americans. Since 1987 (originally as Nielsen Homescan, then in 2010 as National Consumer Panel), the NCP has been gathering panel member's opinions and shopping data to help manufacturers and retailers make informed decisions on what products to develop, improve or sell in the market.

The NCP panel gives panelists the opportunity to earn rewards from a fun and simple process, simply by scanning barcodes of the items they buy every week! You could change the face of your favorite brands or improve your shopping experience by becoming a member.

Payment and Rewards

Sign Up for Your Spot

Being immediately accepted into the program is not guaranteed because acceptance is based upon if/when there is an opening or a need for specific household demographics, so availability does vary. To sign up for NCP, simply click the green 'join now' buttons on this page to apply for a position.

Rewards for Participating

Earn points for sending your shopping data each week and for answering surveys. NCPMobile participants can redeem their points towards gift cards including: AMC, Amazon, Apple, Delta, Fandango, Google Play, Groupon, Spotify, Uber as well as for Vanilla Visa cards.

Participants with hand-held scanners can access NCP's online gift catalog that contains a wide variety of name-brand merchandise including electronics, home appliances, sporting goods, toys and more!

Earn More Rewards

New NCP panel members earn reward points for registration and reporting their first shopping trip. In addition, panel members earn 250 reward points for birthdays, 1,000 bonus points on their 6-month anniversary and 1,000 bonus points on their 1-year anniversary (and each year after that). Other seasonal and ad-hoc promotions can earn panel members additional reward points depending on their participation.

Participant Experience

Scan Your Purchases with the National Consumer Panel App

As a new member of NCP, you will receive access to NCPMobile, their exclusive mobile app for scanning and reporting your shopping trip details (available in iOS and Android). Use the app to scan the barcodes on your weekly purchases and earn rewards for your participation. You can also provide information on non-barcoded items you purchase (such as fruit and vegetables, baked goods, gas, prescriptions, etc.) using the app. You may be asked to provide additional information on a shopping trip, including the store you went to, if you used a club card, etc. Sharing this level of detail will help the product makers and retailers that are responsible for the products you love to purchase and is easily done so using the interface.

Earn Reward Points!

Points are largely earned by scanning your weekly purchases. You'll start by getting 150 points each week NCP receives your shopping data. The weekly amount of points increases the longer you are on the panel. With opportunities to earn additional points by answering surveys, special NCP promotions, specialty panels, etc., points can add up quickly. Gift offerings begin at 5,000 points.

Ripoff

September 10, 2017 by Richard from United States

this organization tied to the nielsens pays practically nothing . It has you scan all the food you buy then enter the price you paid for EACH item. An average shopper has thirty to forty items in a weekly grocery trip so you can see it takes and hour or more a week for which you accumulate 200 points. After 15.000 points i finally sent in for a pair. What they sent was a ten dollar pair of binoculars that I had over eighty hours into acquiring. that's about .20 an hour they are paying you.

Beware of this company

September 4, 2017 by Michelle from United States

I sent the scanner back to them thru the USPS. They keep calling & threatening to turn me over to a collection agency even though I've told them several times that I sent it. I am not the only person this has happened to. Check the BBB. Their score is an F. Apparently I am going to have to get an attorney involved to resolve this matter.

Transmission "Not" Successful

July 13, 2017 by Nancy from United States

After religiously sending in weekly data to NCP, I received an e-mail telling me that they have not heard from me for a week. I found this hard to believe because every time I sent in the grocery items, I always was told "Transmission Successful." But for some reason, even though they told me "Transmission Successful" for one week, they now are saying they never got the information. They are blaming it on the Internet....since you know "it is not 100% reliable"...Now, I am out of the running to make $500.00 at the end of the year if I transmit every week. There was no use in talking to a "higher up", since they said "There is nothing we can do about it since we never received your transmission for that week." So, I am now out of the running for the guaranteed $500.00 since they never received my transmission for that one week. (Even though when I transmitted the information it stated "Transmission Successful"). Something inside me thinks that because they have too many members who have religiously transmitted each week and are in the running to receive $500.00 at the end of the year, they will have to cull the numbers down since they don't want to pay all those many members $500.00 each. Starting next year, I will double check with NCP to make sure they get my transmission and they don't take me out of the running for $500.00. If they say they got my transmission, then fine, if they say they did not, I will re-send it until they say they received it. Fool me once....

NCP

February 6, 2017 by Jamie from United States

I signed up for NCP in the fall of 2016. I eagerly hooked up the equipment and started transmitting my purchased items. Just after Christmas my husband had to be hospitalized for period of time. When we were finally able to return home and resume our lives, I opened my email to find that NCP had sent me several threatening emails. I called them and explained why I was not transmitting (they did not care). Since I had not transmitted they were demanding their equipment back or they were going to ding my credit report and send it to collections. In the email they stated that I had 2 weeks to return the equipment. Included in my original packaging was a U.S. mail return slip, but you have NO way of tracking the package once it leaves your hands, following the advice of other burned panelists, I demanded a FedEx label so I would have proof that they received the package. It took them over 2 business days just to send the shipping label. I immediately dropped the package for return shipment and I plan on keeping the proof that they received the equipment back. I would strongly advise people not to join this company. They have a history of harassment and "losing" returned equipment. I have joined several survey sites and I never seen such an unprofessional/rude/disorganized company.

SO Mad !!!

July 13, 2016 by Carol from United States

After being a panelist for 18 years I requested a new catalog. It came in Spanish. I requested one In English. I compared points needed for a prize. In only three items there was a 29,000 difference LESS for the Spanish catalog!! I'm insulted about the blatant discrimination this company represents. I will contact the State & Federal authorities about their unsavory practices. 18 years? I deserve more respect!
